Where's the Time?

After my first week of blogging, I found out one thing: people who blog a lot don't have lives. In fact, the next blog that I see with more than one post a day is going to have to come to my house and mow my yard.

It sounds simple, just post your thoughts online [just like I'm doing now]. But it takes time to get to your computer, log in, formulate a thought, edit, find a picture, find links, etc. With a two-year-old and a more than full-time job, it's tough. But such is life. Hopefully, I'll have more time to devote to this lame thing in the future.

Happy Father's Day

A big happy Father's Day to everyone who is so blessed to be called "Dad" or "Daddy" or "Pops" or any other name by their sons or daughters. I know in my life, behind getting married, becoming a father was the single happiest time in my life.

Being one of three sons, and with my only child a boy, this strip from Arlo and Janis made a lot of sense to me (Click it for a larger version):

Tim Russert 1950 - 2008

If you didn't like Tim Russert, I can probably sum you up in one word: Bitter. In the hours after his untimely death, every news outlet played clip after clip of Russert from his years as Washington Bureau Chief for NBC News and host of Meet the Press. Hardly, if ever, did a clip go by without Russert flashing that trademark smile you see above.

The man was by far the most joyful personality on television. And he was as down the middle as they come. He was one of the only people to get The Brunette interesting in politics - no small accomplishment.

This election cycle, and every one to follow will be less interesting because Tim is gone. What's worse is that we will be a less educated electorate. This will remain until someone comes along who can carry the torch the way Tim did. Sadly, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Friendly Fire for Jo?

I'm a Democrat, and no one who knows me is confused about that. But I have no problems crossing party lines when I think a Republican is the better choice. Such is the case in my support for Jo Bonner, the GOP Congressman from Alabama's First District (Mobile). But Jo came under fire from an unlikely source - the usually Republican-friendly Fox News. The topic: Pork. Ouch... take a look.

Countdown to E Day: 147 Days

The countdown to Election Day officially started a week ago with the nomination of Barack Obama for the Dems. In the first round of their 5-month battle, Sens. McCain and Obama are taking on the economy. Obama is trying to lay out his plans, including repealing the Bush tax cuts, investing in renewable, alternative fuels, and putting more money into infrastructure. We'll see if any of that catches any traction with voters.

Meanwhile, McCain is trying to come back with ideas of his own, including making the Bush tax cuts permanent, and the aspirin-for-a-severed-limb remedy of a gas tax holiday.

Both men are flawed, but this seems to be the hot topic for the election. Here's a reality, I wouldn't trust either to balance my checkbook, so what makes me think they could fix one of the largest economy's in the world? There is nothing that one person, or one political party, can do to make jobs go up and gas prices to go down permanently.

Reasons To Be

The revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged.

I'm not big into complaining, so recently when my wife (henceforth and forevermore referred to here as The Brunette) and I were, um, complaining about the power that bloggers have, I decided that if I can't beat them, I'll join them. Another reason I started this blog is the same reason every other blog was started -because I wanted YOU to think that I was smart/hip/funny/interesting/relevant. So far, it hasn't worked. But in the coming days, weeks, and months, I hope to bring up topics that are of some interest to people other than myself. Or this could be my last post. We'll see.
